Voxx Accessories shows off hassle-free Soundboard for wireless audio (hands-on)

soundflow

Voxx Accessories (formerly Audiovox) launched its newest Soundflow wireless audio product at CTIA this week: the Soundboard. The idea is quite simple; place just about any handset on the 3-AA battery powered Soundboard while it plays your favorite music and the device instantly amplifies and rebroadcasts it through its own built in speakers. No pairing, no wires and no hassle is the name of the game.

The concept and its ease of use is really slick, though sadly, the execution is sub-par because even if the tech works perfectly the sound is pretty terrible. The housing is so small that there is simply no bass at all so the resultant audio quality is high pitched and tinny. Voxx's rep did mention that the speaker still needs tuning, so we'll definitely wait 'til we run into it again for final judgment on the Soundboard's sonic abilities. So until that time we'll save its $29.99 list price for a decent NFC-enabled speaker that delivers almost exactly the same no muss no fuss wireless experience. Pics of the Soundboard are in the gallery below.

Officials: More attacks in Iraq; 7 killed

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Officials say new attacks in Iraq have killed seven people and wounded dozens.

A police officer says a suicide blast at a checkpoint, followed by militants who opened fire at Iraqi troops, has killed three soldiers in Tarmiyah. The town is 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Baghdad.

A medical official confirmed the causality figure. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to media.

Mayor Shalal Abdool says two parked car bombs went off simultaneously in the northern city of Tuz Khormato, killing three civilians and wounding 38 people there.

And in Kirkuk, police Col. Taha Salaheddin says three bombs exploded back-to-back at a sheep market, killing one person and wounding 25. Kirkuk is 290 kilometers (180 miles) north of Baghdad.

Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro review: just like the original, but bigger

Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro review: just like the original, but bigger

Nintendo seems to have a knack for repeat performances. Nintendo DS? Quickly supplanted by the DS Lite -- and the DSi didn't last too long either before it was succeeded by the DSi XL. Even the 3DS saw a revision, when it was supersized last summer. These redesigns typically don't change more than the device's size, but when the 3DS XL was announced, some gamers were left wanting. Didn't the original 3DS get an accessory specifically to address the lack of a second analog pad? Why didn't Nintendo take the opportunity to add dual-analog controls? Well, if that happened, Nintendo couldn't release an encore Circle Pad Pro accessory, could it? Let's take a look at the 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro and see what's changed.

Google Hangouts Has a Weird, Fun Multi-Cam Trick

So, Google's new Hangouts app keeps all of your chats in sync across all of your devices. Cool, right? But what if you're in a video call on your phone, and then open the same video call on your computer. Boop! Suddenly there's two of you, as I just discovered when chatting with my friend Bay.

You can now show two angles of yourself at the same time. Turn your head from one to the quickly for instant comedy. But why stop there? I pulled out my tablet, and yep, that worked, too. In the image above you can see there's three of me and two of him.

This may not have been an intentional Easter egg, but it's fun nonetheless. There might actually be a modicum of utility, even. You could continue to show your face, while you use the camera on your phone to show some project that you're working on. Or maybe it's so you can switch from one device to the other without having to hang up. Really, though, you're just going to use it to weird people out, and that's just fine. But watch out for audio feedback. It can be harsh.

Kerry to attend Syria talks on May 22, visit Mideast, Africa

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will attend talks on Syria in Amman on Wednesday, the State Department said, as major powers try to bring the Syrian government and opposition to peace talks in June.

Kerry's visit is part of a one-week trip that begins in Oman on Tuesday and includes talks about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Jerusalem and Ramallah on Thursday and Friday as well as an African Union summit in Addis Ababa over the weekend.

He then is scheduled to return to Jordan on Sunday to attend the World Economic Forum.

Trying to find a diplomatic solution to end Syria's more than two-year-old civil war will be near the top of his agenda. The United States and Russia on May 7 said they would try to bring both sides to the conflict to conference - possibly in Geneva in June - to select a transitional government.

However, it is still unclear whether the government and the opposition will attend such a meeting, let alone how they will bridge the opposition's demand that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad leave power.

Kerry is also trying to find a way to revive peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, which broke down in 2010 in a dispute over Israel's construction of Jewish settlements on West Bank land that the Palestinians want for a state.
