This is How the Jurassic Park Animatronic Triceratops Was Built

As a young pup watching Jurassic Park, I was in terrified of the T-Rex, fearful of the Raptors, in awe of the Brachiosaurus and annoyed of that little spraying dinosaur. But probably above all, I felt for the Triceratops. It was hurt! It was dying! It was so incredibly detailed. Stan Winston School revealed how they built the Triceratops, how they painted it, how they shipped it and how the puppeteers controlled it in this video. Part two of the Triceratops video can be found here. [Stan Winston School] More »

ongoing education - master v etc - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

Hi
Im interested in continuing qualifications and wondering about appropriate courses. I currently hold my coxswains certificate (Master on a fishing or trading vessel less than 12 m in length for inshore operations (within 15 n miles) )Coxswain Courses - 17 days and include all course requirements:
Nautical Knowledge
Engineering Knowledge
Onboard Tuition
Elements of Shipboard Safety (Level 2 First Aid, Liferafting & Firefighting)
Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency
What would follow this? Master V certificate or is there another internationally recognised licence? Is the yachtmaster offshore of any additional value to what I have already done?
Also I would be interested in completing a course while sailing the Med with my girlfriend. Are there any instructors that could come aboard with us to complete a course?
Thanks for any info
Monte.

Kodak tentatively sells its scanning business to Brother for $210 million

Kodak tentatively sells its scanning business to Brother for $210 million

Kodak as we once knew it has been shedding its identity piece by piece, and today it's selling off one of the more familiar cornerstones. The one-time photography legend has made an initial deal to offload its Document Imaging division to Brother for $210 million through a stalking horse bid. If no one else makes a sweeter offer, Brother is likely to take control of Kodak's scanning hardware and software in an agreement that's expected to receive bankruptcy court approval by June. It's the end of an era for a company that's all too familiar with ending eras -- let's just hope it gets around to starting one of them in the near future.

Solar Stik? Hires Retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer, Ronaldo Lachica, as Business Development Representative

Solar Stik?, the leader in portable renewable power technology, has appointed Ronaldo Lachica, a retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4), to serve as its Business Development Representative.

St. Augustine, FL (PRWEB) April 14, 2013

Solar Stik?, the leader in portable renewable power technology, has appointed Ronaldo Lachica, a retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4), to serve as its Business Development Representative. CW4 (R) Lachica has 27 years of leadership and management experience with the US Army. He has spent the bulk of his career maintaining power generation equipment and providing power to soldiers.

Explaining his decision to accept Solar Stik?s offer, CW4 (R) Lachica commented, ?My views on Operational Energy (OE) are shaped by my two combat deployments to Iraq. So, I want to start my second career as a contributor to DoD?s OE Strategy - preferably in the area of tactical micro-grid development. Being a Business Development Representative for Solar Stik allows me to do exactly that.?

In the early stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom, CW4 (R) Lachica established and managed the electrical power grid for a forward operating base (FOB). The grid supplied over 1.5 megawatts of power to support the best possible living conditions for 4,500 troops.

?Chief Lachica brings to Solar Stik? an impressive history of both field experience and ?thought leadership? on the issue of Operational Energy; he understands what our customers need, and will be instrumental in helping us deliver it,? said Solar Stik? CEO Al Zaccor (Colonel, US Army-Retired).

While stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, CW4 (R) Lachica directed maintenance and logistics support operations for an organization of 1,000 soldiers. He later served as the Logistics Readiness Officer (LRO) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. As LRO, CW4 (R) Lachica planned, coordinated, and led the conduct of logistics operations for an organization of 4,600 personnel. This organization performed civil engineering projects and various military operations at multiple locations.

In addition to extensive on-the-ground experience, CW4 (R) Lachica earned a Master?s Degree in Logistics from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2012. Army Sustainment Magazine recently published an article by CW4 (R) Lachica that explores contemporary military energy issues and strategic plans for improvement.

Solar Stik? is honored to welcome CW4 (R) Lachica to the team and looks forward to his inevitable success representing Solar Stik?s superior products to our men and women in uniform.

Napster.fm Is An Open Source Social Music Player That Can Be Hosted By Anyone In Case Of Shutdown

logo.heroAnyone who has had a computer and a connection to the Internet in 1999 quickly knew what it felt like to find any song that you wanted, and then listen to it almost immediately. Well, the immediate part wasn’t true, since you had to download the MP3s, which usually took quite a bit of time on a dialup connection. Since Napster, and it getting sued into oblivion (and then acquired for bits and pieces by Best Buy), streaming music has become the technology du-jour. Napster co-founder Sean Parker is now heavily involved with Spotify, which realized the “any song, any time” dream that Napster introduced us to. Today, a service called Napster.fm popped up, and it’s a web-based music player that has some interesting social features. The best part about it is that it’s open source and can be set up by anyone, in case it ever gets shut down. Its creator, Ryan Lester, is a student at Carnegie Mellon who is “taking a few years off to work at SpaceX and do other stuff.” A part of the “other stuff” is clearly Napster.fm. How does it work? Well, after going through the quite FAQ (Lester obviously has a sense of humor), he explains that the service is dependent on “minor inefficiencies in YouTube’s piracy-detection system.” Regardless of where the tracks are coming from, the service actually works. As soon as you visit the site, the song that’s queued up for you is “Never Gonna Give You Up,” which is long-forgotten-once-hated “RickRoll.” The search interface is pretty basic, but once you start adding songs to your playlist, you can share them with friends who have also signed up for the service. Once you’ve done that, you can sync up and listen to exactly what they’re listening to. The “Discovery” tab shows you what everyone has listened to, if you’re in the mood to find something new. You can even create a group of friends that are using the service and someone can play DJ and decide on which tracks will come up next. Sure, these are some of the things that you can do on other services, like Turntable.fm, but the Napster.fm interface is stripped down and basic, not sucking up a lot of resources. The other nice part is that there isn’t a desktop client to worry about, as is the case with Spotify. What you’re listening to will
